Which one do I need?

Just labels, or the whole kitchen?

Most kitchens start with labels because that's what the EHO looks at first. Solo Labels gives you exactly that — and nothing you don't need yet.

You are here

Solo Labels

The label printer on its own. You type the item, it prints a compliant label. Everything lives on the device and in a simple web dashboard — no menu database to build, no setup weekend.

£200 to start + £30/month rental · nothing else required
The full system

Labels + CompliChef ecosystem

Labels pulled automatically from your KitchenPortal recipes — allergens filled in for you, no typing, no chance of the wrong allergen on the wrong dish. Plus temperature logs, checklists and EHO packs.

Actual labels, actual printer

This is what comes out

No mockups. These were printed on a Solo Labels device this morning.

Every label a UK kitchen has to produce

Thermal print on 50 mm and 80 mm food-safe label stock — no ink, no ribbon, no smudging in a wet kitchen. Each label carries who printed it, when, and a QR code for traceability.

  • Allergen warnings with allergens emphasised in bold
  • Use-by dates calculated from the prep date
  • Frozen & defrosted labels with the 24-hour rule printed on
  • Storage location, prepared-by name and print timestamp
Printed CompliChef labels — frozen white bread, defrosted white bread, chocolate brownie allergen warning and BBQ sauce use-by label

Type it, tap it, tear it off

The device remembers what you print most, so the items your kitchen uses every day are one tap away. New item? Type the name once and it's in the list for next time.

  • Recently-used items surface automatically
  • Big touch targets — designed for gloved, wet hands
  • Prepared-by name filled in from whoever is signed in

Label types

Five labels, one device

Pick the label type, fill in the item, print. Each one is laid out to satisfy a different part of the food safety regs.

Use-by

Use-by date

Item, use-by date and storage location. The everyday workhorse label for prepped and decanted stock.

Allergen

Allergen warning

Full ingredient list with the 14 major allergens emphasised in bold — the format Natasha's Law expects.

Freeze

Frozen

Date frozen, use-by, freezer location, plus the "once defrosted, use within 24h" instruction printed on.

Defrost

Defrosted

Date defrosted and the 24-hour use-by, with "do not refreeze" so nobody has to remember the rule.

Sale

Sale / PPDS

Pre-Packed for Direct Sale labels for anything you pack and sell on site — ingredients, allergens, use-by.

Included on the device

The same handheld does your temperatures

Your printer is a full Android handheld, so it doubles as the device your team records fridge, freezer and food temperatures on — pair a Bluetooth probe or sensor and the reading fills itself in.

🛒 Need the hardware? Bluetooth probes and fridge sensors can be bought directly in your portal under Kitchen Devices — they pair with the handheld straight away.

Fridge & freezer checks, without the clipboard

Pair Inkbird Bluetooth sensors and the handheld reads every fridge and freezer in range. Each unit has its own safe range, so an out-of-spec reading is obvious immediately.

  • Read all sensors in one tap
  • Per-unit safe ranges, named by location
  • Readings timestamped and stored automatically

Probe a dish, record the reading

Connect an Inkbird probe over Bluetooth and the live temperature drops straight into the record — no squinting at a display and writing it on a sheet. Below 75 °C, the device asks for a corrective action before it will accept the reading.

  • Live probe reading, or type it manually
  • Corrective action prompted when a reading fails
  • Signed against the member of staff who took it

Questions

Before you order

No. Solo Labels stands on its own. The Sunmi V2s is supplied on rental for £200 to start (a £100 onboarding fee plus a £100 refundable deposit) and £30/month, covering 500 labels, the Solo Labels platform, stock management and temperature logging. If you later want allergens pulled automatically from your recipes and EHO inspection packs, you can add a CompliChef ecosystem plan at any time.
No. The Sunmi V2s remains the property of CompliChef and is supplied as a straightforward rental—there is no ownership transfer or rent-to-own arrangement. This lets us manage, support and update the device throughout your subscription.
500 labels covers a lot of single kitchens. If you're consistently going over, the usual answer is a second rental printer — busy sites tend to want one in the prep kitchen and one on the line anyway. Get in touch and we'll look at your volumes with you.
Sale labels print the full ingredient list with allergens emphasised in bold, which is the format required by The Food Information (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2019 for Pre-Packed for Direct Sale food. On the Solo plan you enter the ingredients for each item yourself; on the ecosystem plan they come straight from your recipe data, which removes the typing and the risk of getting it wrong.
No minimum term. Cancel whenever you like and return the device in good condition. Cancel within the first 14 days and the whole £200 comes back. After that, the £100 security deposit is still refunded whenever you return the device in good condition — only the £100 onboarding fee is not refundable.
The temperature features are on the device either way — you can type readings in manually at no extra cost. If you'd rather the readings filled themselves in, Bluetooth probes and fridge sensors can be bought directly in your portal under Kitchen Devices, so you don't have to work out which models are compatible — everything listed there pairs with the handheld. Ask us if you're not sure what you need.
